ETD-014 – Provider Safety Guidelines
Plain Language Summary
EmergencyTireDelivery.com (“ETD”) recognizes that many marketplace providers perform services in dynamic roadside environments where moving traffic, weather conditions, limited visibility, and other hazards may be present.
These Provider Safety Guidelines promote a safety-first culture throughout the ETD Marketplace. While providers remain independent businesses responsible for their own operations and compliance with applicable laws, ETD encourages every provider to make safety the highest priority during every service call.
1. Purpose
The purpose of these Guidelines is to promote safe working practices for providers offering products and services through the ETD Marketplace.
Safety protects providers, customers, passengers, and the traveling public.
2. Safety First
No product, service, sale, or deadline is more important than human safety.
Providers should evaluate every service location before beginning work and should not perform services when conditions present an unreasonable risk to themselves, the customer, or others.
3. Work Area Assessment
Before beginning work, providers should reasonably assess the service location, including:
- Traffic conditions
- Available working space
- Roadway surface
- Vehicle stability
- Weather conditions
- Visibility
- Lighting
- Nearby hazards
- Appropriate equipment
If conditions are unsafe, providers should work with the customer to identify a safer location whenever reasonably possible.
4. High-Visibility Apparel
Providers are strongly encouraged to wear high-visibility safety apparel appropriate for roadside work, particularly when operating near moving traffic or in reduced visibility.
High-visibility clothing helps improve worker visibility and contributes to a safer work environment.
5. Warning Devices
Whenever appropriate and permitted by law, providers are encouraged to use warning devices that help alert approaching motorists, including:
- Hazard warning lights
- Amber strobe warning lights
- Reflective warning triangles
- Traffic cones
- Other approved safety equipment
Providers should comply with all applicable laws regarding roadside safety equipment.
6. Vehicle Positioning
Service vehicles should be positioned in a manner that promotes safety whenever practical and consistent with applicable laws.
Providers should avoid creating unnecessary hazards for customers, themselves, or other motorists.
7. Safe Work Practices
Providers should:
- Use appropriate tools and equipment.
- Follow manufacturer recommendations whenever applicable.
- Secure vehicles before lifting.
- Verify vehicle stability before beginning tire removal or installation.
- Maintain awareness of surrounding traffic throughout the service.
8. Customer Safety
Providers should encourage customers to remain in a safe location while work is being performed.
Children, passengers, and pets should be kept away from the immediate work area whenever practical.
9. Communication
Providers should communicate clearly regarding:
- Arrival updates
- Safety concerns
- Service limitations
- Unexpected conditions
- Changes that may affect the service
- Inform customer what the service vehicle looks like
Good communication contributes to both safety and customer confidence.
10. Refusing Unsafe Work
Providers should never feel obligated to perform work when they reasonably believe conditions present an unacceptable safety risk.
Whenever practical, providers should explain the concern to the customer and discuss safer alternatives.
11. Emergency Situations
If a provider encounters an accident, medical emergency, fire, hazardous materials, criminal activity, or any situation requiring immediate public assistance, emergency services should be contacted without unnecessary delay by dialing 911 to inform the local police department.
12. Training and Preparedness
ETD encourages providers to maintain the knowledge, skills, equipment, and preparation necessary to perform services safely and professionally.
Continuous learning and preparedness contribute to improved customer service and safer roadside operations.
13. Independent Responsibility
Providers participating in the ETD Marketplace operate as independent businesses.
Each provider remains solely responsible for:
- Workplace safety
- Employee safety
- Compliance with applicable laws and regulations
- Required licenses, permits, certifications, and insurance
- Safe operation of vehicles and equipment
Nothing in these Guidelines creates an employment relationship or transfers responsibility from the provider to ETD.
14. ETD’s Commitment to Roadside Safety
ETD believes that safety is a shared responsibility.
By promoting safe work practices, honest communication, and professional judgment, providers help protect themselves, their customers, and everyone who shares the roadway.
